COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCSC/WIS) - A former South Carolina House member has agreed to enter guilty pleas on charges related to distributing sexually explicit images of children.
RJ May was charged in June with 10 counts of distributing child pornography. Each charge carries a minimum prison sentence of five years and a $250,000 fine.
Court documents indicate May has agreed to plead guilty to five counts of distribution of child sexual abuse materials. As a condition of the plea, he will be required to register as a sex offender for supervised release after serving any prison time.
His plea hearing agreement is set to take place at the Matthew J. Perry Federal Courthouse in Columbia on Monday.
May, a Republican who represented Lexington County, resigned from the House in August.
