SPARTANBURG, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - During an unrelated visit to the Upstate on Friday, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster weighed in on criminal charges against Chuck Wright.
Court records show the former sheriff has agreed to accept a plea deal after the U.S. Attorney’s Office found evidence he stole funds from the county and used them to buy drugs.
"I’ve known Chuck Wright for a long time,“ McMaster said. ”I’ve worked with him. I’ve been very happy to work with him in the past and have depended on him. I’m saddened and sorry to see this turn come about. But we have rules we have to go by, and if you break them, you have to pay the penalty. There are consequences for actions."
