CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A former manager with Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control is suing the the city and two of its employees.

A lawsuit has been filed over the alleged wrongful termination of Rachel Smith, the former Animal Control Manager at the Cedar Rapids Animal Shelter.

In February, Smith was hired as Animal Control Manager after the previous manager resigned. She initially interviewed for the Assistant Manager position.

Smith alleges she was fired in retaliation for disclosing mold and moisture problems to a state inspector. She was the manager when the shelter failed two state inspections in August.

The lawsuit also states Smith repeatedly asked for more resources from the city prior to the inspections but was denied.
