PHOENIX — More than 250 bills passed by the Arizona Legislature this year became law on Friday.

Here are five new laws that could make an impact immediately - or many years from now.

Raising age for tobacco purchases

Arizona is raising the minimum age to buy tobacco from 18 to 21 years old. That matches federal law. The new state law applies to vaping products and paraphernalia as well. Anyone under 21 is also prohibited from possessing those products.

Preston's Law

Preston's Law changes how the state prosecutes gang-style assaults like the attack that killed 16-year-old Preston Lord of Queen Creek in 2023. The law allows for felony charges against participants in an attack.
