Devastated relatives of Melbourne teen Dau Elbino Akueng, who was allegedly murdered in Melbourne’s west earlier this month, have farewelled the 15-year-old at a heartbreaking funeral.

On Saturday morning, hundreds of mourners gathered at Resurrection Catholic Church in Melbourne’s west for Dau's funeral.

The service comes less than a month after he was allegedly attacked by a group of people wielding machetes in Cobblebank , alongside his friend 12-year-old Chol Achiek.

Both died at the scene on September 6.

The brutal attack has been described by police as “one of the worst” knife crimes witnessed in the city.

Dau’s uncle Akolda Bil remembered his nephew as someone who “brought joy to everyone around him”, his voice becoming shaky as he spoke.
