URBANDALE, Iowa (KCCI) - Bus drivers serving the Urbandale Community School District are threatening to strike after their union contract expired on Sept. 11. Drivers have continued working without a deal while Teamsters Local 90 presses for higher wages and improved retirement benefits, KCCI reports.

According to the district’s handbook, Urbandale contracts student transportation to Durham School Services, a national school bus operator that also serves other central Iowa districts, including Waukee and Saydel community schools.

Drivers voted last week to authorize a strike, but are remaining on the job as negotiations continue. If no agreement is reached, Urbandale students may need alternative transportation.
