Portland police arrested two people during Sunday night’s protest outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in South Portland, the Police Bureau said.

Officers took a 17-year-old from Milwaukie into custody at about 9:30 p.m., police said. He faces charges of assault in the fourth degree.

About half an hour later, officers arrested 38-year-old Nathan McFarland, of Portland, police said. He was booked on a charge of assault in the third degree.

The Police Bureau provided no details about the reasons for the arrests.

The protest outside the federal facility on Macadam Avenue in South Portland, in response to President Donald Trump’s decision to send National Guard troops into the city to protect immigration agents, was mostly peaceful.
