MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It's been more than two years since anyone lived at the now-closed Peppertree Apartments. and now city leaders are asking for community input on what should happen next at the Whitehaven property.

If you drive by the outside of the apartment complex, you’ll see chains locking the fence, boarded up doors, busted windows and overgrown grass in what used to be a playground.

The complex closed and the hundreds of residents who used to call the place home moved in 2023 after the owners for the taxpayer-funded complex lost their contract with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
