WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A new emergency alert system was put to use Thursday afternoon in Wichita in an incident that began with a kidnapping investigation, involved a crash and ended with two armed teens in custody following a foot chase.
The hectic series of events began at about 11:45 a.m. with WPD officers being notified about a potential 16-year-old kidnapping victim who was with two suspects in a stolen vehicle. Police sued the FLOCK camera system to track the vehicle from downtown Wichita to the west side.
After the suspect vehicle ran a red light at 21st and Tyler and crashed into three vehicles, two 17-year-old boys ran from the scene. That’s when the “Civic Ready” alert went out. Its purpose is to let people in the area know about situations that are a threat to the public.
