North Carolina and other states continue to seek solutions for addressing violence in hospitals while protecting workers, as more doctors, nurses, and security get punched, choked, and even shot.
At UNC Rex, 25-year-old patient Kameron Gilchrist of Raleigh is accused of spraying HIV-infected blood into the eyes of two hospital employees, causing irritation and exposure to the virus. The incident happened in March, but Gilchrist was not arrested until Sept. 11.
Last Friday, 24-year-old Liam Dowling of Wendell was accused of punching a health care provider in the eye and scratching a hospital security officer until they bled at WakeMed Hospital.
