Saskatchewan's Serious Incident Response Team has cleared an Estevan Police Service officer of any wrongdoing in a fatal shooting that took place inside the police headquarters in November 2023. In a report released Thursday, SIRT concluded the officer's use of lethal force was legally justified to defend himself and another officer from death or grievous bodily harm.
The incident occurred on November 1st, 2023, after a 19-year-old man was arrested in connection with the homicide of his mother. While being processed, the man disarmed an officer, shot him, and was then fatally shot by a second officer during the ensuing struggle.
