WISHEK, N.D. (KFYR) - Residents of a south-central North Dakota town sang a different tune Sunday morning. They also had some special guests filling the pews.

St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wishek, North Dakota, celebrated 100 years of Sauerkraut Day with a Polka service, a tradition for the members of this church.

“I actually grew up Catholic, just down the street, and my wife is Lutheran, so we started coming here after we moved back and got married,” said church member Paul Just.

The lyrics to well-known polka songs have been altered to match worship music by resident Janet Wolff. She sang some of the songs in German.

“It’s this wonderful service of honoring our German and Russian heritage with those popular polka tunes that people know,” said Pastor Colin Neuharth.
