MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Louisiana State Police are reminding drivers to slow down and pay attention durinh National School Bus Safety Week, which is from Oct. 20-24.

Millions of kids ride buses every day during the school year. National School Bus Safety Week is a reminder that keeping those bus riders safe takes community effort.

LSP says its important to stay vigilant because while school buses are a safe way to travel, accidents still happen when outside drivers don’t follow the law.

According to the NHTSA, there were 971 deadly school-bus-related crashes resulting in 1,079 deaths from 2014-2023. This is an average of 108 deadly accidents a year involving school buses.
