SHARON, Pa. (WKBN) - A popular event in downtown Sharon is not returning next year.
WaterFire Sharon had 29 lightings on the Shenango River over its 13-year run. It brought thousands of people to downtown Sharon, looking to support the arts and, in the process, spur economic growth. The group behind WaterFire has decided it's time for something new to replace it. While WaterFire is wrapping up, the legacy will live on with a new idea.
"There's a lot of good energy and momentum. I'm excited to hear more of the ideas that are yet to come, and build on what has already been started," said Karen Anderson, with WaterFire Sharon.
WaterFire drew nearly half a million people to Sharon over the last 13 years.
