FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — A suspect has been arrested in connection with the stabbing of former Fall River Mayor Will Flanagan.

Mayor Paul Coogan told 12 News that police made the arrest Tuesday morning.

Officers were called to a reported stabbing on Hartwell Street around 5 p.m. Monday. When first responders arrived, they found Flanagan significantly injured.

Flanagan was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery, according to Coogan. His current condition is unknown.

Flanagan was the city's mayor from 2010 until a recall election was held in 2014.
