TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A man was arrested Tuesday after Tampa police said he stole a fire truck and then crashed it in a hit-and-run.
The Tampa Police Department said 59-year-old Warren Scudder stole the fire engine while firefighters were inside St. Joseph's Hospital around 9:25 a.m.
Scudder drove away and then crashed into a gray Lexus SUV near Dr. King Boulevard and MacDill Avenue, officers said.
The driver of the Lexus was taken to a hospital after the crash.
At 9:38 a.m., officers found the stolen fire truck and blocked it in the 4100 block of Poplar Avenue.
Scudder was then taken into custody.
He was charged with grand theft auto and a hit-and-run. Additional charges may be pending.
The investigation is ongoing.
