TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said it attempted to take a Tampa man into custody before he threw a loaded firearm at detectives and tried to escape.
According to an HCSO criminal report affidavit, detectives conducted surveillance to locate Chauncey Welch for his felony warrants for felon in possession of a firearm.
"Chauncey Welch jumped fences for the backyards of multiple residential structures and continued his unlawful resistance despite multiple commands from various HCSO detectives," HCSO said in a criminal report affidavit.
HCSO said that Welch discarded a loaded firearm that was tucked into his waistband as he began to flee from detectives.
HCSO bodycam footage showed detectives forcing Welch to the ground as he attempted to enter his residence.
