NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The inaugural fundraiser is happening next week for Judge Dinkins Educational Center (JDEC).
The nonprofit gives 14-to-18-year-olds who’ve been detained in the juvenile justice system a chance to graduate high school while getting certified and licensed in a trade.
The inaugural Judge Dinkins Educational Center Gala will take place Tuesday, October 28, at 14 TENN on 51st Avenue north in the Nations. WSMV4 news anchor Tracy Kornet will emcee.
The nonprofit was founded in 2024 by former Davidson County prosecutor Judge Jim Todd, who prosecuted country music superstar Jelly Roll when he was a teen. Todd was elected to General Sessions Court Division VI in 2022 and appointed special prosecutor for violent and gang-related juvenile offenders.
