HIAWATHA, Iowa (KCRG) - The Hiawatha Fire Department is conducting live fire training exercises on Sunday.
The training is set at an acquired home at 6709 Oak Grove Road in rural Linn County, west of Hiawatha.
The department said four other local fire departments will take part in the training. Those include Monroe Township Fire Department, Palo Fire Department, Alburnett Fire Department and Fairfax Fire Department.
The training started at 9:00 am with a fire being lit to simulate real house fire conditions. The department plans to start the final fire to burn down the structure around 12:30 p.m.
The exercises will provide training for 15 new members who joined the Hiawatha Fire Department in August, along with existing firefighters from all participating departments.
