LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

The University of Louisville's student-run newspaper, The Louisville Cardinal, is set to lose funding at the start of next school year, but a solution to save it has been proposed.

According to The Cardinal , UofL is set to cut all financial support for the student paper starting in fall 2026. This is due to restructuring within the College of Arts & Sciences.

The Cardinal editors say the paper is currently supported by "reappropriated scholarships from UofL’s Department of Communication."

However, the department has put together a proposal to fund it.

UofL Department of Communication Chair Kandi Walker told The Cardinal a budget proposal has been drafted to instate a $25 student fee for all non-Pell Grant eligible students. This fee is estimated to bring in $600,00
