JASPER, Ind. — Indiana State Police announced on Sunday one of its K-9 officers has died.
ISP says K-9 officer Barker was found dead on Saturday, Oct. 25 due to "unforeseen medical reasons." K-9 Barker was described as a "loyal partner" to Trooper Jacob Lauer.
K-9 officer Barker served ISP as a dual-purpose K-9 and was trained in both patrol duties and narcotics detection. Throughout his service, Barker helped assist with numerous criminal investigations, narcotics seizures, suspect apprehensions, and community demonstrations.
"K-9s are more than just working partners, they become part of our family," Lieutenant Brock Werne said.
