KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A longtime Knoxville advocate and community organizer, Alejandro Guizar Lozano, 32, filed a writ of habeas corpus in the United States District Court in the Western District of Louisiana after he was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Middle Tennessee on Oct. 15 , according to Allies of Knoxville's Immigrant Neighbors.

A writ of habeas corpus is a challenge to a person's detainment, asking the government to prove it has legal grounds to hold Guizar Lozano.

Guizar Lozano was detained by ICE in Smith County, Tennessee, while reporting for a routine appointment. AKIN organizers said he has been shuttled through four different ICE facilities, leaving him without his attorney and support system.
