Popular makeup brand Neutrogena has issued a recall for makeup removing wipes sold in South Carolina that could be contaminated with a bacteria that causes sepsis, among other serious infections.

An internal investigation by Kenvue Brands LLC, the N.J.-based company that owns Neutorgena, revealed its Makeup Remover Ultra-Soft Cleansing Towelettes tested positive for a bacteria called pluralibacter gergoviae. The bacteria can cause severe infections and has been linked to urinary tract infections, respiratory diseases, eye infections and sepsis, especially in people with weakened immune systems, according to Melbec Microbiology, a microbiology testing company that specializes in the cosmetics industry.
