WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A western Kansas town's city council has been found to have violated the Kansas Open Meetings Act.
The Kansas Attorney General's Office said Monday that Bucklin City Council members will pay $100 in civil penalties and undergo additional training on the Open Meetings Act as part of a consent agreement.
The AG's office said an investigation found the city council voted to make a financial commitment for the city over text messaging. Conducting city business over text message deprived the public of its right to observe and monitor the city government, officials said.
