DUBLIN, Ga. — A Dublin woman who once depended on federal nutrition assistance while putting herself through nursing school nearly 20 years ago is now working to support families facing similar challenges as SNAP benefits face cuts.

Laura McCormick remembers when one swipe of an EBT card meant food for an entire month for her family of four.

"I found myself where I needed to depend on programs, food stamps to get through nursing school," McCormick said.

Those benefits proved crucial, as she raised her family while pursuing her nursing degree. Now, McCormick credits that support with her success today.

"I'm here today because of the support I received when I was in school," she said.
