Though the owner of Phat Tuesday Sports Bar said he would consider limiting his business’s hours, a majority of the Mobile City Council voted Tuesday to immediately shutter the controversial St. Stephens Road nightclub.

Mobile police told the council during a public hearing on Tuesday, Oct. 14, that officers responded to more than 200 calls to Phat Tuesday in connection with shootings, disorderly conduct, drug activity and more over the past three years. Councilors did not vote to suspend, revoke or decline to renew Phat Tuesday’s business license last week because they said they needed more information from law enforcement.
