EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Have you received a text message claiming to be from the Rhode Island Division of Taxation lately?

If you have, beware: It's a scam.

"The Division of Taxation will never contact you via text," Neena Savage, who oversees the division, told Anchor Kayla Fish on 12 News at 4. "We will snail mail you or we will email you, but please reach out to us first if you get one of these texts."

"Never give up your financial information," Savage reminded Rhode Islanders. "It's the most precious information that you have, and you should protect it at all times."
