BUXTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- Dramatic footage from the Outer Banks shows rough surf leading to more home collapses in Buxton.

During high waves from a coastal storm, Eyewitnesses report that five homes fell into the water Tuesday afternoon, tying the record for the most in a single day.

The National Weather Service has issued a warning about a coastal low producing high winds and waves up to 15 feet high, exacerbating the situation.

A total of 26 homes on Hatteras Island have fallen into the ocean since 2020, not including two that were manually demolished. Before Tuesday, the last time a home crumbled on the Outer Banks was at Buxton just 10 days ago on Oct. 18, following nine homes falling into the surf between Sept. 30 and Oct. 3.
