CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) - A portion of King Street remains closed on Monday as Charleston city leaders prepare for a building demolition.

On Friday, the city's police and fire departments were called to 1001 King Street, where the left side of a building had partially collapsed.

Building officials were also called to the location, where they determined it would require a complete demolition. Nolan Stevenson, assistant manager at Artist & Craftsman Supply, was working at the time and heard a big crash.

"Very sudden. I mean, you would know that the building has been vacant, but you wouldn't know it's got any structural issues," Stevenson said.

Officials stated that the building was constructed in 1941 and had most recently served as a Masonic Temple.
