CHARLESTON — A portion of King Street is closed until further notice as the city coordinates the emergency demolition of a building that inspectors determined to be "at imminent risk of collapse."

The determination came after the structure's roof collapsed on Oct. 31, which damaged the building's outer walls and the immediate area but did not lead to any injuries, according to a social media post from the Charleston Fire Department .

The vacant building is located at 1001 King Street, near Rodney Scott's BBQ. King Street, from Grove to Francis streets, has been closed to all pedestrian and vehicle traffic since.

"The public is strongly advised to avoid the area," a Nov. 2 statement from the city said.
