MINOT, ND (KXNET) — November is National Adoption Awareness Month, and throughout the state, different places are celebrating families while also explaining how the adoption process works here in North Dakota.

According to the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services (NDHHS), the state is seeing a record increase in adoptions.

Micaela Williams, a lead adoption specialist with Catholic Charities in Minot, said their main goal this month is to find permanent homes for kids.

She said there is always a need for adoptive families, not just in Minot, but throughout the entire state.

"On average, we have anywhere from 20 to 30 children currently in foster care who are in need of an adoptive family, so the need is always there," Williams said. "It doesn't really waiver month-to-mon
