AUSTIN, Texas — Austin ISD is delaying plans to close three elementary schools that were part of its consolidation proposal.
Palm, Bryker Woods and Maplewood elementary schools will no longer be included in the Board of Trustee’s final vote, according to district officials. The future of the three campuses will be reevaluated in fall 2026.
The district still intends to move forward with the closure of ten other campuses as part of a broader strategy to address declining enrollment and a projected $20 million budget shortfall.
AISD Superintendent Matias Segura said it became clear additional work was needed to ensure meaningful community engagement.
