The annual Downtown holiday market complete with chalets-style booths and vendors selling Christmas gifts will be moving to a new location in the Cultural District this year to steer clear of construction in Market Square, officials said Thursday.

News of the location shift came during a gathering of city, county, community and local business leaders — as well as the Pittsburgh Pirates parrot and Santa Claus himself — at Heinz Hall to lay out the plans for the city’s 64th annual Light Up Night and a month of holiday festivities Downtown.

Last year’s wintertime festivities attracted about three million people to the city center and its nearly 400 local businesses and restaurants, according to Jeremy Waldrup, president and CEO of the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, which has been working
