MEMPHIS, Tenn. - General Motors said it will temporarily lay off more than 700 workers at an electric vehicle battery plant in Middle Tennessee.

Multiple published reports state that GM is making the move because of a drop in customer demand. While the automaker says it hopes to resume production by the middle of next year, it's the latest sign of a sagging electric car market. And that's raising questions about Ford's Blue Oval City EV project outside of Memphis.

"I ain't got no choice. I got to come here and charge it," said electric vehicle owner Christopher Brown.

Brown lives in an apartment. That means he has to drive his Tesla to an East Memphis charging station every day.

"I keep the junt on sports mode. You know what I'm saying? I like to go fast!" Brown said.
