The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has charged an Edmonton police officer after investigating an allegation of on-duty sexual assault more than two years ago.
The police watchdog began its investigation on Sept. 8, 2023.
On Wednesday, Const. Renzo Geronimo was charged with sexual assault, unlawful confinement, being unlawfully in a dwelling house and breach of trust.
ASIRT said because the case is now before the courts, it would not provide further information.
It is not known whether the accused is still working for the Edmonton Police Service.
Geronimo has been released on an undertaking . His next court date is scheduled for Dec. 10.
