NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A federal judge made a decision that could put food back on the table for thousands of people in Connecticut -- and a charity is working to make sure New Haven-area residents aren't going hungry in the meantime.
Judge Jack McConnell has ordered the Trump administration to fully fund SNAP benefits by Friday after the president previously committed only to funding part of the program for November.
"The Trump administration must fully fund SNAP and they need to do it now. It is unacceptable to use Americans and their access to food as political pawns," said Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont in a statement responding to the judge's decision. "Connecticut is continuing to make contingency plans to ensure no family goes hungry because of Washington's dysfunction."
