A porch pirate paid a steep price behind bars.

The Kitchener man, 23, was brought to court Wednesday from Maplehurst Correctional Complex in Milton to plead guilty to a theft on Halloween.

He had a head injury.

“What happened?” Justice Craig Parry asked.

“My head got cracked in Maplehurst,” he said, adding he was assaulted in his cell.

On his first day in jail, he and three other inmates squeezed into a cell built for two, the man told Parry.

“Probably a bit of a debate about who sleeps where, I gather,” the judge said.

“Yeah,” the man said.

“And you lost that debate, by the looks of it.”

“Yeah.”

The man spent six days in Maplehurst after getting arrested for stealing an Amazon package on Oct. 31 from the porch of a house on Pearl Place in Kitchener.
