PORTLAND, Ore. — A driver died early Friday after crashing while trying to elude police in Portland's Centennial neighborhood, authorities said.
Around 2:57 a.m., an officer saw two cars driving recklessly near Southeast 119th Avenue and Division Street and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, according to Portland police. Before the officer activated emergency lights, both cars sped away.
Officers later found one of the vehicles crashed into a utility pole near Southeast 148th Avenue and Division Street. The driver, who was believed to be the only person in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The second vehicle was not immediately located.
