CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Friday that one of its off-duty deputies was involved in a deadly domestic violence incident Thursday night in Shelby.
According to a statement from Sheriff Alan Norman, Deputy Mitchel Hilton was involved in what he called a “tragic domestic violence incident” that left one person dead.
The deadly shooting happened at the Crown Ridge Apartments on South Dekalb Street.
Shelby Police were first at the scene and called in the NC State Bureau of Investigation to take over the case. The sheriff’s office said it is “fully cooperating” with the SBI’s investigation.
