An air ambulance has landed near an A-road after a crash involving a lorry and a digger.
The collision happened on the A249, towards Sheppey, between the Key Street roundabout and near to the Sheppey Crossing.
Pictures taken just before 4.10pm from the scene show a lorry jack-knifed on the carriageway.
An air ambulance has been sent to the scene alongside firefighters, police and paramedics.
A police spokesman said: “The carriageway is currently closed and drivers are advised to find alternative routes where possible.”
National Highways advised drivers to use the Kingsferry Bridge just after 5pm.
It said there are 45 minutes of delays and four miles of congestion.
Travelmaster bus company took to social media to apologise to its customers just after 4.10pm.
