A teenager who was driving 'doughnuts' in a car park just a day after he passed his test has been sentenced to five years in jail for causing the death of his friend. ‌

Corey Owen Cooper lost control of his grandfather's Fiat Grand Punto which he was driving, killing friend Josh Atkins in November 2023. The then-17-year-old had been speeding between 47mph and 53mph down 20mph roads in S heffield, Yorkshire, before attempting the dangerous manoeuvre. ‌

Performing a 'doughnut' means that the vehicle's rear rotates around its opposite end, creating a circular doughnut-like skid mark on the surface. Cooper pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and seriously injuring another passenger in August at Sheffield Crown Court, reports the Mirror . ‌
