An early morning shooting investigation in Virginia led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man who was randomly firing shots from an air pistol out of an apartment window, police say.

Donis Manuel Chan Ajtum is facing nearly a dozen charges following a strange scene that played out early on Thursday morning, according to the Arlington Police Department.

Officers responded shortly after 4:30 a.m. on Nov. 6 to the 1200 block of S. Courthouse Road, where there was a reported shooting.

Police said that officers were flagged down by a man who had been struck by a projectile, and later located a second man who had been hit outside of his vehicle.

Both men suffered minor injuries that did not require treatment. Three parked vehicles were also struck by projectiles, investigators noted.

While on scene, officers determined the projectiles had been discharged from an apartment window.

Responding officers located the apartment unit, made entry, and took Ajtum into custody.

During the execution of a search warrant, an air pistol, CO2 cartridges, and projectiles were recovered. Ajtum was also determined to be in possession of fake identification.

He was charged with:

  • Reckless handling of a firearm;
  • Two counts of assault and battery;
  • Two counts of shooting missiles at occupied vehicles;
  • Three counts of destruction of property;
  • Possession of fake identification;
  • Fraudulent use of identification.

Ajtum is being held at the Arlington County Detention Facility without bond.

The incident remains under investigation.
