COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio House Agriculture Committee approved on Wednesday an amendment to an existing bill that would require chain restaurants to add warning labels to menu items with high sodium levels.
According to a press release from the American Heart Association, the committee amended House Bill 364 - a food allergen labeling bill - that would require restaurants to flag any item that exceeded 1,150 milligrams of sodium, which is half the recommended daily limit. The change to the existing bill was unanimously approved by the committee.
Research from the American Heart Association showed that 9 out of 10 Americans consume too much sodium, with more than 70% of it coming from processed foods and restaurants. Additionally, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said
