CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Indiana Department of Education has announced that 3rd grade literacy rates have increased.
This comes after scores were released from the IREAD assessment, a required evaluation of students' reading levels.
Brent Vaught is the principal at Clay City Elementary. The school had 100% of its 3rd grade students pass this year.
"It takes your entire school community", Vaught said. "It takes the parents to be on board, it takes the students who want to put forth that effort, and it takes the teachers and the instructional assistants to all work together as a family and community to push to get the kids to achieve. Then the kids have to obviously want it too and our kids do."
