PORT CLINTON — There is a great hunt awaiting you right here in northwest Ohio with solid outfitters who are setting the example for countless others.

I found that out firsthand while participating in the 23rd annual Ohio Partnership Hunt in Port Clinton put on by Ducks Unlimited, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Wildlife, and a host of other sponsors.

One of the key factors for this hunt is how the once mighty Black Swamp area remains a top migration stop for hundreds of thousands of waterfowl.

“From November to December anywhere from 250,000 to 300,000 waterfowl come through northwest Ohio,” said Fred Zink, Jr., of Port Clinton, a champion waterfowl caller and founder of Zink Calls and Avian X decoys, who spoke at the Oct. 29 perch fry dinner.
