NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Metro Public Health Department confirmed what they believe to be the first case of the measles in Nashville since 2005.
In a Friday press release, the MPHD said the source of the infection is being investigated along with contacts. The patient was not vaccinated against measles and reported a recent history of travel, the department added. Dr. Joanna Shaw-Kaikai, Chief Medical Officer with the MPHD, said their symptoms did not develop until they returned back to the state.
At this time, the person is recovering from their illness and Shaw-Kaikai said there is no threat to the public.
