MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Dozens of volunteers, young and old, showed up at Lindenwood Christian Church on Saturday morning to serve their community.
"It's truly is a blessing to see people support our community," said volunteer Lyncola Seaberry.
Church members spent the morning distributing food to those in need in partnership with the Mid-South Food Bank.
Executive Minister Rick Hamilton says they usually do the food drive once a month, and roughly 200 to 300 people show up.
However, he says the need has grown since the ongoing government shutdown has left federal workers without pay and SNAP benefits delayed for hundreds of thousands in the Mid-South
"We are over our maximum of 400 today," Hamilton explained. "The need is phenomenal right now."
