Damonte Sherrod , a 25-year-old Akron man, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter roughly eight years after he shot Mario Harris Jr., whose death in 2024 stemmed from complications caused by the 2016 shooting.
Sherrod pleaded guilty on Nov. 10 to involuntary manslaughter, which was amended from murder, days before his jury trial was scheduled to begin on Nov. 12, his attorneys and prosecutors said. In exchange for his guilty plea, Summit County prosecutors dismissed a second murder charge.
