FAIRFAX, Va. — Tuesday’s basketball game at EagleBank Arena was recorded as an exhibition for the Catawba men’s team and a victory for George Mason University.

GMU beat the Indians 86-62. Catawba was only down 38-31 at the break, but the Patriots (3-0) led by as many as 28 points in the second half.

Catawba played 13 men. Jordan Simpson was the scoring leader with 10 points.

George Mason’s Jahari Long scored 25 points, mostly by going 16-for-17 at the foul line.

George Mason shot 61 percent and out-rebounded the Indians by quite a bit.

The bright spot for Catawba was 15 steals and a 21-15 edge in the turnover column.

Catawba will open the season officially at Lander on Friday.
