A Philadelphia woman is facing charges after authorities accused her of stealing over $61,000 from the Philadelphia School District.
Laurel Schullere is charged with two counts of theft by deception and provider prohibited acts. According to a release from the state Attorney General’s office, she turned herself in on Wednesday.
Officials said that Schullere has two children who need therapeutic care. She told the school district that the business called Missing Pieces could help her children but did not disclose that she owned the business.
The Attorney General’s office said there is no evidence Missing Pieces was an functioning business. The company listed two addresses — one to an unaffiliated church and another that was an abandoned property.
